Coaching 

I've been leading writing workshops and moderating writing groups since the early 2000s, first with my mentor and life partner, S.L. (Sid) Stebel, and, after his passing, on my own.

At the famed Santa Barbara Writers Conference I lead a workshop called "Finding your Secret Story," where I teach writers to decipher their own text to find the hidden gems within and to solve the story problems that most frustrate writers.

On a practical level, that means finding solutions to all kinds of story problems: generating new ideas; where to start or end; what to do when you've written yourself into a corner; how to get unstuck; finishing those works that never seemed to get off the ground; and the answer to that age-old question, "What happens next?"

I'm available by appointment to coach writers one-on-one or in groups. I've done weekend retreats, one-day workshops, and pop-up gatherings, and can tailor a program to your needs.
